Is Tekken 8 Crossplay? Cross-Platform Play Explained
Yes, Tekken 8 is crossplay. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) players all share the same online pool, and they have since the game launched on January 26, 2024. Tekken 8 was the first mainline Tekken with cross-platform play (Bandai Namco lists Multiplayer with Cross-Play among the game’s launch features), and it still works across all three platforms as of mid-2026. So if you have been asking “is Tekken 8 crossplay” before buying on a different system than your crew, the short answer is that you can absolutely play together.
Tekken 8 crossplay is full and three-way (PS5, Xbox Series, PC), but it is an optional toggle per match, and there is no cross-progression between platforms.
What platforms is Tekken 8 on?
Tekken 8 launched on three platforms only, and that has not changed:
| Platform | Tekken 8 available? | Crossplay |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | Yes |
| Xbox Series X and S | Yes | Yes |
| PC (Steam) | Yes | Yes |
| PS4 / Xbox One | No | — |
| Nintendo Switch | No | — |
There is no last-gen or Switch version, so the crossplay pool is a clean three-way mix of PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. That also answers it for older consoles: Tekken 8 does not run on them.
Does Tekken 8 crossplay work across all platforms?
Yes. Full cross-platform play is supported in every major online mode: Quick Match, Ranked Match, Player Match, and the Tekken Fight Lounge. A PS5 player can fight an Xbox or Steam player and vice versa, all inside one shared matchmaking pool with cross-platform matching switched on.
How to turn Tekken 8 crossplay on or off
Crossplay is optional, not forced. The first time you boot the game you are prompted to pick “Cross-Platform Play On” (pre-highlighted as the default) or “Cross-Platform Play Off.” You can change your mind anytime later through Options > Game Option Settings > Cross-Platform Play and toggle it on or off.
There is also a per-search control. When you queue for Quick Match or Ranked Match, you are shown a Platform Restrictions option: set it to enable cross-platform play to be matched with other systems, or restrict it to your own platform. So crossplay can be on globally but still chosen match-by-match.
These menu paths reflect Tekken 8 as of June 2026 and can shift with major patches or seasons.
How to play with friends on other platforms
Cross-platform friends do not work through PSN, Xbox, or Steam friend lists. Tekken 8 uses its own Tekken Fight ID (a 12-character player ID) plus the in-game Tekken Fight Lounge. To add someone on a different platform:
- Enter the Tekken Fight Lounge and pick the same Lounge Region as your friend.
- Open the menu, go to Community > Players in the Lounge, find them, and send a Tekken 8 Friend Request.
- Once they accept, they appear on your in-game Friends list regardless of platform.
To run a set together, one of you picks Online > Player Match > Create Session (optionally setting a Pass Code under Advanced Settings for a private room), then opens the Sub-Menu and chooses Invite Friend.
Does crossplay work in Ranked?
Ranked Match supports crossplay too, but it stays an optional per-match choice through that same Platform Restrictions setting, so each player decides whether to allow other platforms for a given search. The Season 2 battle update (2025) also tightened Ranked Match’s search criteria, adding a “Same Rank Only” option to its Rank Restrictions (per the official TEKKEN 8 Season 2 patch notes), giving you more control over who you are matched against alongside the crossplay option.
Limitations and caveats
A couple of things trip players up:
- No cross-progression. Each platform is a separate account. Your rank, character unlocks, in-game currency, and Arcade Quest progress do not transfer between PS5, Xbox, and PC. As of June 2026, no release date for cross-progression has been announced.
- PC anti-cheat concerns. Because PC shares the crossplay pool, suspected cheating is a recurring community complaint, and some console players deliberately turn crossplay off in Ranked to avoid it. Crossplay itself still works; this is a player-preference caveat, not a removed feature.
